Role of the African Union in Managing Migratory Trends
Africa has developed one of the most extensive regional normative frameworks for migration governance of any region in the world.
Yet the literature reviewed for this report consistently documents a widening gap between continental policy commitments and their implementation in practice.
This K4DD Rapid Evidence Review maps the institutional architecture, policy frameworks, programme interventions, and financing mechanisms through which the African Union (AU) and related structures engage with both regular and irregular migration within, into, and out of the continent. It draws on a range of source types, including institutional and programme reports produced by international organisations, such as the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the AU Commission (AUC) etc; alongside peer-reviewed academic scholarship, survey-based empirical analysis, and independent programme evaluation.
