Key Changes and Developments in Humanitarian Research and Data Sources
This K4DD Rapid Evidence Review identifies a number of developments in humanitarian research over approximately the last ten years.
New topics such as climate, localisation, and the humanitarian-development-peace nexus, have generated new research but little agreement. There is increasing research on existing areas such as cash, attacks on healthcare, displacement, inequality and exclusion from humanitarian responses, and accountability to affected populations.
Research remains dominated by institutions in the ‘global north’ despite some initiatives to increase the visibility of researchers from the ‘global south’, and despite a belief that Covid-19 would see more ‘local’ research.
