The Impacts of Climate Change and Environmental Degradation on Women and Girls in the Sahel

22nd February 2024

This K4DD Rapid Evidence Review collates findings from recently published papers on the impacts of climate change and environmental degradation on women and girls globally and in the Sahel in particular.

It also summarises findings suggesting emerging good practice for gender transformative programming which responds to identified climate adaptation needs in Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and Niger.

Due to the breadth of this query, and in view of its geographical scope and the expected spatial variability of climate change impacts, this is not a systematic review of the literature but is instead intended to serve as an introduction to the key issues and opportunities to address the differentiated experiences of the impacts of climate change for women and girls in the Sahel.
