This K4DD Rapid Evidence Review explores the extent to which BARMM communities are prepared for stronger, and more frequent natural disasters in the wake of climate change.

Climate change is expected to increase extreme weather events in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), enhancing exposure to storms, heatwaves, and droughts. Preparedness is hindered by low climate change literacy and day-to-day insecurity.

Key issues include ongoing land rights disputes, conflict, and economic vulnerabilities. Impacts include increased displacement, reduced crop yields, food insecurity, and environmental degradation. Effective disaster preparedness in BARMM requires addressing these intersecting vulnerabilities, improving adaptive strategies, and enhancing public awareness and social protection mechanisms.
